In NINJA: Shadow of Darkness, players assume the role of Kurosawa, a young but powerful ninja. Unlike many ninjas before him, he is able to summon powers of the arcane; magical spells that do great damage to those cast upon. And he'll need it - the world has been cast into utter darkness in which monsters and creatures from the beyond roam.

There are four different worlds broken into 11 distinctive levels - Kurosawa will travel throughout cemeteries, rocky mountain terrain, coastal areas, deep and dark forests, etc. The goal in each is to survive, which is often easier said than done. As alluded to earlier, monsters (such as goblins) are out for your blood - even fellow ninjas who've turned to the dark side will meet you with resistance.

Played from a third-person perspective, you must stop your foes at all costs. In addition to magical spells (flame and lighting area attacks included), Kurosawa is provided with an arsenal of weaponry fit for a ninja. Among daggers and sword-like items, players can use throwing stars and other various projectiles on their enemies. But watch out - those enemies will join forces with each other and gang up on you; one must practice stealth and strategy if they are to survive!

NINJA: Shadow of Darkness is for one player and requires one block of memory for saving. Help Kurosawa destroy the evil and return peace to the land. If he fails, the world will be overrun by the hideous Dragon and Lord Batanaka... the young ninja's life will also perish.
