Nintendo has confirmed that both 3DS and Wii U eShops will close on March 27, 2023.

The company revealed that as of March 27, 2023, users will no longer be able to make purchases from the eShops, and it will no longer be possible to download free content, including demos.

Nintendo also revealed that as of August 29, 2022, “it will no longer be possible to use a Nintendo eShop Card to add funds to an account on Nintendo eShop for Wii U or Nintendo 3DS. However, it will still be possible to redeem download codes until 27 March 2023.”

Even after the closure of both stores on 27 March 2023, Nintendo shared that it will still be possible to redownload purchased games and DLC, receive software updates, and play games online on Wii U consoles and Nintendo 3DS systems. The company also stated that this won’t change “for the foreseeable future”.
