Nintendo DS LCD Backlight In A Sega Game Gear? - Messing Around With Old Parts
This is just something I was messing around with the other night. I wanted to see if the backlight from a faulty Nintendo DS top screen would fit and be any use inside a Sega Game Gear. The hope is that battery life could be greatly improved since the modern DS backlight module runs off 4 LEDs compared to the Game Gears oldschool and very inefficient florescent tube CFL backlight.
This is just something I wanted to try for fun. I had the spare parts to hand along with a couple of faulty consoles and was curious to see what could potentially be acheived. I may or may not turn it into a full blown mod and permanently replace the original CFL backlight. Although, I'd kinda like to have a go at installing an internal rechargeable battery pack similar to what I did with my Sega Nomad Powerback. This backlight mod could go well with that!
After making this video I was doing a little research online and discovered that a few people have tried this mod before. It seems to work quite well and using a DSi XL screen can give even better results.
Thanks for watching!
