Reading out my written review for The Crazies

Written Review:

Talk about a movie that pushes the freaky limits. I got the shit scared out of me from this movie. They mixed great story, action, suspense, and freakiness. What is great about this is that it’s entirely believable.

The story is well written, and what the characters do is believable. The acting is great, and they bring this story alive. So much happens during this movie, and you never get bored during the process. The characters are actually smart in this movie. The cops act smart; they use tactics and have a cool head during moments in the movie. This is so refreshing, since so many movie cops make stupid decisions.

The setting the movie takes place is ever changing. The city is believable, what happens feels like it could actually happen, and that really adds to the scariness of it. It also drastically changes during the course of the movie, and the transition moves smoothly throughout the movie.

The sound in this movie fits in perfectly. The sound effects for everything also add to the realism of this movie. Music in this movie is low key, and some scenes don’t have music during them, but it adds to the tension that way. Don’t get me wrong, there is music in this movie, but I was so sucked into the story, the low key music integrated into the tension. This is one of those movies that you won’t have some loud music playing when the action starts, which for this movie plays out very well.

This movie doesn’t need much special effects, but when it comes up it works well. Fire looks real, the sets look real, and the guns are realistic. All of it just blends in seamlessly, which is also another rare thing for a movie to do, but this film pulls it off.

There are a lot of special features in this movie. You have an option of putting this in your computer and access the DVD and copying over PDF’s of the Screenplay or concept art. This is ingenious IMO, I like this so much better than only seeing the concept art through a clunky menu. Also the script has a small continuation at the end of it that is a real shocker, and I recommend reading the last page of it.

You also get two out of the four virtual comics on this DVD; which serves as a prequel to the story. The first virtual comic is thirteen minutes long, with the second one being around eleven minutes long. The music and acting are ok on them, but it still cool to watch after you have seen the movie, and add to the freakiness. You also have your typical behind the scenes stuff, and it runs around thirty minutes. This DVD also includes a commentary; which like all other commentaries with directors, gives you an insight to the movie and how it was made. It’s also slightly amusing as well, and I laughed a couple of times.

Overall I recommend everyone to buy this movie. I could keep going on and on about this movie, but I will leave you saying that this movie has freakiness flowing out by the gallons.
