Nissan's $1.5-million GT-R50 supercar is finally here

The current-gen Nissan GT-R hasn’t received a major update since — ever. The supercar first debuted in 2007 and has essentially retained the exact same styling throughout the years, with only a couple facelifts to keep it in line with the rest of the Nissan range.
That all changed when the brand turned to famed coachbuilder ItalDesign to draw a new car for the 50th anniversary of the GT-R nameplate in 2019.
The firm’s GT-R50 Concept evolved the shakotan looks of the GT-R into more of a razor-sharp aesthetic, befitting of a car with a cameo in a futuristic anime like Ghost in the Shell.
Larger turbochargers from the GT3 race car meant the 3.8-litre V6 now pumped out 710 horsepower; that’s matched by Nismo suspension parts. There’s even more vents in the front to take the air and put it where it belongs.
It took a while, but production has finally started for the GT-R50, and will end after only 50 units come off the line. The first one comes in this incredible mint colour, but we’re sure Nissan will let you have any shade you like. Deliveries will begin at the end of 2020, with the final vehicles rolling out of the design studio in early 2021.
There are still a few build spots left, and Nissan plans to offer the US$1.1 million (CDN$1,536,249)
