I was just 20 when a life-changing moment found me. On a regular Saturday, one of Nigeria’s foremost contemporary churches was rehearsing—but their three keyboardists were absent. I was just an eager studio errand boy at Eko Reelmix Studio, willing to do anything to be around music. Then, the music director turned to me: “Can you help us out?” 🎹 — We will be doing “JESUS MY HELP by HEZEKIAH WALKER”
With just a few chords, confidence, and charisma, I played. The room erupted: “He must come and play tomorrow!”
That Sunday, I played three services—struggled in the first, pushed through the second, and told myself in the third: This is your last chance—deliver! By God’s grace, I did. The pastor’s assistant later handed me a token (huge money at the time! 😂) and asked if I had a church. I said no. “Pastor Paul says he’d like you to join us.”
That led to five years with them, i then moved for six years working in South Africa 🇿🇦, and nine years directing and restructuring the entire music department upon my return to Nigeria 🇳🇬 before going to do other things in December 2019
This and other experiences has helped me to open doors for many others, giving opportunities to people who never thought they’d get anywhere today! — Some are BIG stars today! Glory be to God, not me!
