Bruh. The flirting. The dancing. The blushes. The entire main cast in this series is having a four-way fest and you cannot convince me otherwise.

Truth to be told, I enjoyed Vanitas no Cartes mainly for the atmosphere and setting, rather than the plot itself lol. Vampires aren’t my cup of tea, but this series totally nails it when it comes to the old gothic aesthetic. The characters are also very beautifully designed and likeable. I find some of Vanitas’ advances towards Jean a little bit icky at first, but then I realise maybe within the context of the story it kinda makes sense? One could interpret their initial dynamic as the parasitism of humans and vampires-- though Vanitas being the predatory one here does present a pretty interesting dichotomy.

And yes, while I am aware that the show gives them quite a lot of screen time (and they’re both very pretty and compatible in terms of appearances)-- I much prefer Noé's relationship with both Vanitas and Dominique tbh. They feel more in-sync and natural. Heck, even Noé/Jean, Jean/Dominique or Vanitas/Dominique have more potential and chemistry. That just goes to say how implication and subtlety does more to the mind of a shipper, I guess.

All things considered, though, I am very content with how the creator managed to spotlight Noé/Vanitas relationship towards the later episodes. I think what these men have right now is really special, a kind of relationship that transcends beyond the boundaries of being both platonic and romantic. I’m fairly late and new to the fandom, but I look forward to seeing the progress of their dynamic!

Also yes I’m using the dub because guess who downloaded the wrong files lmao. I’m actually not that mad about it though, since the english version actually sounds so hot xDD Especially Vanitas.

Although, speaking of the little gremlin himself--I know there was a time when there were so many people simping after Vanitas– but am I the only one who paid more attention to Noé ? He’s so elegant, calm and gentle, and he honestly makes me feel so safe. It could also be the character design, but compared to many other anime protagonists, I find him oddly more mature and graceful.
