Hey everyone! Apologies for the long wait on this one! It's been a bit of a rough month for me, and I was feeling extremely drained of motivation for most of it. Honestly, writing these lyrics and getting this video done has made me feel a bit better, and I'm very appreciative of all of you who stick around and watch my stuff! It means a lot! ;]

I like to imagine that Now or Never! was written after Squid Squad released their first album, being made public in a subversive marketing sort of way. Ichiya posted the song on social media, inviting viewers to make their own covers and replace the lyrics with "whatever is in [their] heart." The song blew up, and covering Now or Never! became the hot new thing, first among fans of Squid Squad, then among musicians in general (thus explaining the multitude of in-game covers for this song).

This was a sort of exercise in differentiating the tones of Squid Squad, Wet Floor, and C-Side, seeing how I could make each rendition stand out despite the similar base material. Squid Squad's is about a youthful want for freedom made manifest in the time kids take off school during the summer, and the desire to maintain that feeling even as summer, and childhood, end. Wet Floor's cover caps off their tonally positive album with a similarly positive call for a never-ending togetherness and communal love, and C-Side's take is in their signature punk mold, rallying listeners to not let "them" keep you down or tell you who to be.
