NSMBU Mini Run - Soda Jungle-Tower - Snake Block Tower
Previous: Bramball Woods
Next: Which-Way Labyrinth
Here's the tower stage for Soda Jungle, featuring Snake Blocks, a real staple of the Super Mario platformers. It's so much of a staple, they were reintroduced for the third dimension for Super Mario Galaxy 2. (This has nothing to do with block towers, but I'm sure the pun was intentional.)
Snake Blocks are a series of connected blocks that form a long platform. When Mario hops aboard, it'll then slowly trace a predetermined path across the stage, its endpoint being either a piece of land that serves as something of a checkpoint (or the end of the stage) or another Snake Block. The challenge, then, is to prevent Mario from falling off by falling behind, as stages with Snake Blocks tend to have very little ground to walk on otherwise. Snake Blocks also seem to love messing with Mario, since their path will put Mario in the way of every enemy and obstacle between the starting point and the endpoint. Things can get rather intense when the stage becomes rather dense with harmful stuff, as you'll see towards the end here.
As with every tower prior, Boom Boom waits for Mario at the end. This time, Kamek will turn him giant. Not that it matters to an already tiny Mario--it just makes Boom Boom a bigger target. Piece of cake.
This will be the last time you'll see Boom Boom in my playthrough of New Super Mario Bros. U. Boom Boom's final encounter is supposed to be in World 6, but I'll take an alternate path in that stage and skip him. I guess you don't ever see him again because he's still standing up there, waiting for a Mario who will never arrive. There will be a tower in World 7, but Kamek will duel Mario directly, and there are no towers in Worlds 8 or 9.
