Nanrait's Videos Game Music #359 - Aleste 2 - Area 3, 5 (OPLL Version)

From Aleste 2 (MSX2, 1989)

I've been playing too much Puyo Puyo recently on my Switch. It's the Sega Ages version but I am not using any save states, rewinds or the easy mode options. I still have not beaten the game or reached the last few stages. I know I could, but my combos often get blocked off by the characters' Garbage Puyos. In the sequels, you can cancel the falling Garbage Puyos before they fall by destroying your own Puyos and using combos. In the first Puyo Puyo, however, you cannot cancel the Garbage Puyos before they fall. It makes the game very tricky and fast paced where as long as you get a good combo, the opponent can do pretty much nothing to stop it. The same goes the other way around! Once the opponent gets a good score, their Garbage Puyos are coming to your side and there is nothing you can do about it!

Anyways, I have been doing college work at home for the Christmas break. I should be working harder on it but it is difficult when I am tired. That is when I be very naughty and boot up Puyo Puyo. The reason I'm bringing this up is because Puyo Puyo was created by the developer Compile which also made the Aleste games. I listened to Aleste 2 and really liked this passionate, fighting-for-hope sounding song.

There is an OPLL version and a PSG version. Both are different sound chips that could be used in the MSX computers. I like the PSG version for it's simple Gameboy-ness but I chose the OPLL version due to a certain sparkle it has in it's sound.

I don't enjoy sitting at my computer and would rather be drawing or playing videogames with my brother. I am annoyed at how distracted and unfocused I can be. I want to be more settled and mindful. I am determined to work on myself more.

Anywho, I have to get back to the computer. I'm doing some work for my 3D animation module where I am pushing and pulling the components of my 3D characters face into various facial expressions. So many vertices I have tweaked with ne'er an end in sight.

I'm just joking. It's not that bad. I'm enjoying 3D but 2D art and design is my preference. Take care everyone.
