A cleric in service of the Flame in Flamesgrace, Ophilia looks to help her sister Lianna prepare for the once every twenty-year holy pilgrimage to the Cave of Origin, the Kindling.

Lianna is the archbishop's daughter and Ophilia was an orphan the archbishop Josef brought into his care. The Cave of Origin houses the First Flame, which Lianna is to take to all the churches across the lands. As they are speaking, Archbishop Josef begins to feel unwell and Lianna helps him to his chamber to rest. Ophilia gets ready for service by herself but a child interrupts looking for his mother.

She takes the boy outside where he is reunited with his mom. Upon returning to the cathedral a merchant Mattias is looking for Josef and asks Ophilia where he is. Suddenly, a worker breaks into the conversation to tell Ophilia that Josef has collapsed. She goes to his bedside. He needs rest but is comforted in Lianna's statement that she will still complete the Kindling. However, once he goes to sleep, Lianna leaves the room to go collect her thoughts on a tall hill in town.
