Octopath Traveler Speedrun Level 1 No Exp/JP/Stat Nuts All Main Stories & All Jobs (+QoL*) (Part 5)
This is part 5 and the finale of my segmented speedrun for Octopath Traveler, aiming to beat all 8 character's main stories and obtain all 12 jobs (All Main Stories + All Jobs).
Scroll down to the bottom for more general thoughts, but it was overall a very rough and difficult segment IMO.

Total runtime of all segments: approximately 12h45m
Please see my Part 1 video's description for a more thorough write-up of the restrictions/QoL mods used, etc, but in general, here are the challenge restrictions:
- Level 1
- No Experience Points
- No Job Points
- No Stat Nuts
- No Beast Lore
QoL mods:
- Spurning Ribbon
- 100% Steals for Therion's Story Items
- Remove Protagonist (unused though)
- Credits Skip (will add credit minutes to timer manually)
- Better Descriptions
- Teleport Out of Hornburg
Notes on fifth segment:
To counter Redeye's Unconscious, we Defend w/ Alfyn to Concoct Rehabilitate, just like w/ Ogre Eagle. With our gear we've gathered to this point and good NPC summon buff/debuff procs, he isn't too bad.
Lucia, however, is IMO the hardest boss in this entire challenge. Her 30 shields means she constantly attacks the whole party. Olb is needed to tank w/ Bolster Defend & Alfyn is needed to heal, so we hope Prim's NPC does Full Enfeeblement for safety. (Can't afford Ophi slotwise.)
Even then, w/ 2 Tomahawks and good gear, the battle can be a dice roll with bad turn order. But the strategy eventually worked - we do some chip damage followed by a burst of boosted stones during and after break to KO.
Winnehild uses a similar Concoct Sidestep + Bolster Defend strat as Balogar. With 2-3 steps per character, it is mostly safe to burst near 50% HP.
Steorra is last as we want maximal HP gear for all 4 to survive each turn (we even use Apothecary/Warrior for their HP bonuses to help survive). Olb's boosted defend lets him tank her hits, while Tressa has the 3rd highest HP, which helps tank the Shooting Stars and break loop her to KO w/ stones & runes, as always. (You can do the fight w/ 3 characters and let one be KOed each break loop or just stay knocked out, but I didn't time whether it's actually faster/better.)

Some other general thoughts on the run overall:
- I used way more money than I expected and was constantly poor. I think this is in large part because I constantly needed better gear and weapons for the stronger bosses in the game, plus you always want to restock Concoct, Soulstones, Jams/Poms, etc.
- Years ago, I did Level 1 Challenges on my Nintendo Switch vs Balogar, Winnehild, Steorra, and Dreisang (still on my channel along with fights against Devourer of Men and Direwolf). The strategies in this run and back then are similar, but back then, I used nuts and had better gear/resources (in this one, I had to make do with lesser equipment at times due to being so poor), so this run was much harder as nuts make an enormous difference.
- The hardest boss IMO was Lucia. Other difficult ones include Werner, Ogre Eagle, Redeye, and Steorra, though the later ones are easier due to having better gear. (That said, Lucia was still hard despite being the final chapter boss we did.)
- Since I banned Beast Lore, I found Alfyn, Prim, and Ophi to be the most useful "core" for my team (in regular AMS/Galdera speedruns, the core is Tressa/Therion and a DPS like one of Ophi/Cyrus/Prim). This is due to their useful talents; NPCs give us buffs/debuffs we don't have access to, and Concoct gives a lot of control over the enemy. Olberic is also useful against some specific physical bosses as well.
- The core strat for almost every boss is to break loop them. As long as you can tank their attacks and re-break them, they are manageable. Many power-up at halfway though, so you do need to manage the HP somewhat carefully, ideally burst at 49% HP or so, to minimize their later phase attacks. (Some of the routing choices are to get weapons in time to do this, like the elemental weapons vs Lucia, etc.)
- Much of the timeloss is from material grinding for Concoct/Soulstones, which was honestly rather tedious, so I don't strongly recommend this run unless you wanna hack those in. That said, I did like how most of the fights turned out as it felt unique compared to other challenge runs I've done. (Also, having the Spurning Ribbon cut many of the trash encounters, so that helped reduce the tediousness at least.)
Overall, the run wasn't completely optimal as I overstocked some things and had suboptimal pathing/menuing at times, but it was still fun, challenging, and interesting, so I'm glad to have finished. I wouldn't have thought the challenge was possible when I first played the game.
Anyway, thanks for watching, and feel free to leave any questions or comments, as always. Take care!
