Oculus VR Made me Puke (DK2 Tuscany Demo) - PSA it could mean something serious
The Oculus user agreement has a safety warning that says (paraphrased) if you experience severe disorientation or sickness that you should see a doctor. There is a warning for people who have epilepsy too. I DID see several doctors over the years for the headache and nausea I had experienced before, but they didn't find what was wrong with me. I had an MRI of my head and nothing weird showed up. I don't have epilepsy or anything like that.
I actually puked twice within 5 minutes of playing. If you played the new virtual reality games and puked really hard, it's worth investigating an underlying condition. I'm putting this out there because it was a side effect from a serious deformation in my sinus and having surgery to fix it was really life changing for me. I hope that if more people know about it, it might help someone find a physical problem before it gets too serious.
I made this video six months ago but back then I didn't know how to edit and I had issues capturing the gameplay (so the gameplay doesn't match what I'm doing but I tried to make it roughly the same). Also it was embarrassing. But I found out the reason I got so nauseated, to the point it made me puke hard almost immediately, was from a genetic deformation in the sinus called concha bullosa. It was really severe and threw off my equilibrium very badly. I wonder if this might happen to other people and if so, it might be a clue that something else is going on.
My problem affected my life for years and was sort of a mystery to my doctors. But after volunteering for a horrible animal shelter and breathing in a lot of disgusting stuff, I had sinus pain that wouldn't go away after months of antibiotic treatment. That's when I had the CT scan and it showed up in my sinus passage. I had a HUGE deformity that put constant pressure on one side of my face. It would get so swollen that headaches would set in and feel like a knife was stabbing my eye. I also had terrible motion sickness from things that shouldn't be that bad. Even a simple car ride, using stairs, etc. were difficult but I had good days and bad days.
I had surgery to fix it and my life has been much better since. I hope others experiencing that awful condition might be able to figure it out sooner than I did because it really sucked and it was difficult to get a diagnosis.
