Odallus: The Dark Call - Part 1/2 - Nintendo Switch ~ Castle & Goblins
3Odallus is a game that's part Castlevania, part Ghosts & Goblins, part Metroidvania? I don't feel like it has enough of a map to explore to call it a metroidvania, but it does force you to go back to previous areas to uncover secrets once you gain new abilities. It also has an "overworld" map which is reminiscent of G&G, but from which you can go from one area to the other. Otherwise, it plays pretty much like an action platformer, but with a Castlevania flair. The controls are a little stiff. I also encountered a good amount of glitches on this Nintendo Switch version. Not sure they are in other versions. The game's final boss is really hard until you learn its pattern! This playthrough is almost 100%, but I missed out on two small upgrades I couldn't be bothered to get. The game was pretty fun, definitely old-school, but it didn't blow me away. The screen shaking of the turtle fight was awful, though! Still, it's a good one overall.
