OG VGM #45: In the Eye of the Storm- Alone in the Dark
3I absolutely adore the first Alone in the Dark, but it has its share of horrible sequels and what is regarded as the worst movie of all time based on the reboot. For some reason they decided to focus the sequels on the worst aspects of the original and threw away the oppressive Lovecraftian feel that engrossed me so. The second game is all about combat which frankly sucks, the third entry I enjoy for the absurdity factor (Zombie Cowboys!. Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare is ok, nothing special and we all know about the 2008 Alone in the Dark. While regarded as the first survival horror game by many, I give that title to The Lurking Horror (1987) or The Uninvited (1988) depending on your definition, but this is the first horror game I can recall with 3D environments and combat. Although the later games in the series aren't nearly as good, the music is wonderful and I encourage you to check them out for that feature alone. Philippe Vachey composed the music for this entry.
