Old into New
The old girl was getting a bit hot in her old case and I wanted to get a bit of additional performance out of her.
I liked the look of the Lian Li TU150 case so I went with that. It took a while to get the parts as I wanted to do it as cheaply as possible. The case was brand new and cost £53.79 delivered from a private seller on eBay. A nice saving from buying from a shop.
I went with some Corsair LL120 fans. I did try fitting 2 in the bottom but when they were fitted they interfered with the fans on the GPU.
Last year a friend at work sold me his old 5700XT GPU for £350, that was at the same price he bought it for, that was nice of him and I was very happy to get a good deal on that.
I got the PSU on a special offer for £99, not bad for a brand new PSU with 7 year warranty. I usually use Seasonic PSU's but this one had a bit more oomph when compared to the current range of Seasonic SFX PSU's.
The Dark Rock Pro 4 cooler was used, I think I paid £70 for that from AVForums. I could have waited and got one elsewhere for cheaper, but at the time that was the final piece of the puzzle. I went with aircooling as that's what I prefer. The Lian Li case easily swallows the Dark Rock Pro 4!
The CPU and motherboard are about 6 years old. Once a CPU get's a bit long in the tooth then I OC it. I managed to get it up to 4.6ghz without going too crazy on the voltage, I could go a bit higher but I don't think it's worth the hassle.
The Ram is also about 6 years old. It's dual rank Samsung B Die so there should be a bit of headroom for OC'ing it a bit. I haven't had the time to tinker since rebuilding this rig but will see how it overclocks a bit later in the year. It did run at 3200mhz at CL14 but it took a bit of tweaking and a bit of voltage to go higher. The old case wasn't as roomy as this one so the ram had a tendancy to overheat at higher clocks/voltage.
So the full spec is:
Lian Li TU150A ITX Case
2 x Corsair LL120 RGB Fans
Asus Z170i Pro gamer
i7 6700k @ 4.6ghz
32gb G/Skill Ram @ 3000mhz CL14
MSI 5700XT Mech 8GB
Dark Rock Pro 4 CPU Cooler
Corsair SF750 SFF PSU
WD SN750 500GB NVME SSD (Upgraded after the video was take)
3TB Storage Drive.
This rig is very quiet and plays all my racing games at decent FPS @ 1440p which is all I can ask for. :-)
If you like this sort of content then please give the video a like a write a comment down below. It takes a bit of effort to make something like this and I don't know if I'm wasting my time showing thing like this on my channel.........Yeah, I know the camera angles are not ideal but I'll try better if I do another video like this.
Thanks for watching!
