Old Time Radio: The Shadow - Death And The Easter Bonnet
Broadcast: April 17, 1949
The shadow was amateur criminologist Lamont Cranston. He had learned “the hypnotic power to cloud men’s minds so that they cannot see him”. The opening to the show, “Who knows … what evil … lllllurks … in the heart of men? … The Shadow knows! His “friend and companion, the lovely Margo Lane, is the only person who knows to whom the voice of the invisible Shadow belongs”. Together they confront the maddest assortment of lunatics, sadists, ghosts and werewolves ever heard on the air. In this episode:
Margo is after a particular Easter bonnet and busy explaining to Lamont how she is having difficulty finding what she wants, a beige one with cherries and birds wings, when the telephone rings. It’s her friend Mrs. Granbury-Smyth inviting her round to her musical party at four. When Margo explains her predicament about the Easter hat she suggests she go to the Baroness Yholanders and there she finds the exact hat she is looking for, but the hat turns out to be more than what she is looking for…
