Class awakenings are vary from game to game but Guild Wars 2 has "specializations" specifically elite specializations which horizontally expand gameplay options rather than direct power upgrades yet still change the feel of a class into a new power fantasy. This has become a huge reason why people are excited to come back to Guild Wars 2 with each expansion.
