The initial investigation into the Olympic Park bombing saw suspicion land on security guard Richard Jewell, who spotted the explosive and attempted to clear the area, undoubtedly saving many lives.

For 88 days Jewell was considered the FBI’s prime suspect and his identity was leaked to the media who hounded him and he endured a trial by media. He was later vindicated by Rudolph’s confession and reached settlements for defamation from several major media outlets and there is now plaque honoring him at the site of the bombing.
