One segment in the Indonesian car market today is an SUV. The proof, various manufacturers have released a new car or just a refresher for their products that fight in the sector. However, the Chevrolet Indonesia ended the sale of its flagship SUV, the Chevrolet Captiva in November 2018.

The Chevrolet Captiva is officially recognized as retiring from the automotive industry in November 2018. If we look at the company's official website, the name Captiva is removed from the product line. How do they fill the vacuum of this SUV? Yuniadi assessed that the other two products were still reliable.

"Captiva is no longer in our portfolio. But we continue to strengthen the SUV segment with two models, the Chevrolet Trax and the Chevrolet Trailblazer. As we have seen, SUVs are increasingly in demand and this segment looks to be growing, "explained Yuniadi Haksono, Communications & External Affairs Director of PT General Motors Indonesia.

Referring to the data from Gaikindo, this year's Captiva sales have fallen. Sales from the factory to dealers for 10 months, Captiva only delivered 71 units. If dissected again, the 2.4 AT gasoline variant sold two units. While the type 2.0 AT diesel engine has 69 units. Seeing market conditions like this, General Motors Indonesia inevitably stops importing Captiva from South Korea.
While for Captiva parts, manufacturers promise to continue to provide services for consumers. "Regarding aftersales, there is no problem. Just as in other types that have phase out (retired). We continue to guarantee the existence of spare parts and other post-sale services, "added Yuniadi.

Well, if we observe again, when the Chevrolet ‘kills’ Captiva, it looks like it is giving a signal or a way for Wuling to fill this segment. Because next year, Wuling is sure to bring Baojun 530 (the concept name in Indonesia: Wuling SUV), maybe with another name that is more flashy, like the North Sumatra. And can Captiva in Indonesia use the same platform?

Could be yes, it could also not. Take for example in the South American market. GM offers a new Captiva, which was taken (rebadge) from Baojun 530. In the Colombian market, Captiva holds a 1.5 liter turbo engine. The unit was imported from China. But GM Indonesia was reluctant to respond to this. "For this question, I am not in a position to comment. In Indonesia, GM and Wuling are two different entities. We only supervise the Chevrolet brand, "he said.
Please note, SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile is a Chinese automotive company that is the parent company of Wuling Motors Indonesia at the moment and General Motors holds the manufacturer's share of 34%. With these conditions, it is possible that they collaborate to market similar products in Indonesia, especially with the interest of Chevrolet Indonesia in the development of SUVs.

So for those of you who are still lacking in confidence when WULING SUV has been in your hands, immediately hunt the Captiva grill in Colombia, yes guys ..
