Reviewing the OnePlus 6 main camera using both video recording and pictures. I've tested the image quality in daylight, trying to asses the color reproduction, amount of saturation, how good the optical image stabilization (IS) is, how well the electronic stabilization works in 4K video recording and I also tested the built-in microphone audio recording to see how well I can hear myself in the videos in noisy environment.

Keep in mind that YouTube compresses the video, which means the original video and image quality will be higher than what you see in this video.

Overall I have to say that I am very pleased with the image quality but I was a bit disappointed with the dynamic range, which I assume is low due to the small sensor pixels but I am not 100% sure.

You can see that in some of the images, there are like dark shadow area patches, which I assume this is due to the low dynamic range that is unable to resolve more details in the shadow areas. This means that especially in high contrast scenes, the image doesn't appear even. It's not bad but it does leave something to be desired.

The image and videos turn out to be more saturated than as I've seen them with my own eyes, but the scene still looked natural. Unlike some phone cameras that render the scene with oversaturated colors.

The audio quality was very good, I was able to hear myself very clear even when putting the phone like a meter away from me, which is great.

The digital image stabilization works amazingly well, but this, of course, comes at the cost of video resolution. I didn't compare the 4K video resolution to other phones nor I analyze it, but I've seen this in other comparisons that other reviewers did. I personally don't mind and I shoot most of my videos in 1080p (Full HD) and I am happy that I have the option to shoot videos with such an effective cinema-grade software-based image stabilization. If you shoot mainly in 4K, I recommend reading specific reviews that deal with it, I might make a review about the OnePlus 6 4K image quality in the near future.

This OnePlus 6 camera review was tested in daylight. I do intend to make some tests in low-light to check out the high-ISO performance of the main camera and show you some sample videos and test pictures so you can evaluate the low-light performance yourself and see if its suffice for your uses.

I am an AR app reviewer, although when I bought the OnePlus 6, I thought that it wouldn't be bad to have another opinion about the OnePlus 6 camera for those thinking about buying it.

If you want me to test anything else for you, please tell me in the comment section below.
