Opera for the Next Generation | Heartbeat Opera | Talks at Google
A special performance and discussion with the founders and
directors of Heartbeat Opera, one of New York’s most daring and cutting edge opera start ups.
Praised as “bold and vivid” by The New York Times, and as “radical” and “worthwhile” by The New Yorker, Heartbeat was founded in 2014 by graduates of the Yale School of Drama and Yale School of Music.
Join Co-Artistic Directors Ethan Heard and Louisa Proske, Co-Music Directors Jacob Ashworth and Daniel Schlosberg, Producing Director Jennifer Newman, and singers Kelly Griffin and Samarie Alicea as they share arias from upcoming productions, video from past performances, and conversation about their company’s mission and work. From the drama at the core of each work, Heartbeat Opera grows vivid theatrical worlds through revelatory adaptations, radical rearrangements, and ingenious design. Through an inquisitive collaborative process with a diverse community of artists, they break down traditional barriers to reimagine opera for artists and audiences for the next generation.
The audience gets an exclusive sneak peek of Heartbeat Opera's Spring Festival (May 2-13 at Baruch Performing Arts Center), featuring radical adaptations of Mozart’s DON GIOVANNI and Beethoven’s FIDELIO.
