Blaine Kern, known in New Orleans as "Mr. Mardi Gras," was a master float builder and a towering influence on the modern theatrics that have become associated with our city's parades. As we at the Museum mourn his passing, we also remember and honor him as a WWII veteran. Drafted into the Army in 1945, he shipped out to Korea at the end of World War II. Exploring both Korea and China during his service sparked his life-long love of travel. Learn more about his service in this oral history from 2007.
