In this third attempt, I decided to go around Mars the long way to see if it would be faster. My thinking was that if I didn't dip too far down into the atmosphere to do that aggressive 180 degree turn, I would be able to keep the high velocity for a lot longer. My logic was sound, but it didn't turn out to be any faster. It takes about 55 minutes either way you go.

I have successfully landed on the runway at Olympus and met the requirements of this challenge (which are to land with a vertical speed of less than 10 m/s, and a horizontal speed of less than 500 m/s), but I have not yet done it as a complete flight from start to finish in 1 take.

The one time I succeeded was after resuming from a save point more than a dozen times!

I want to complete the challenge from start to finish in 1 take and I won't give up until I do. This is my third attempt at completing the challenge from start to finish in 1 take.

It took me about 55 minutes to fly this challenge from start to finish.

There's no audio commentary for this video because I knew I would likely have to record this flight several times before I would be successful. I didn't want to bother commentating as I flew if it was just going to end in a failure.

Since most of the 1 hour flight is just a bunch of gliding, I imported the video into an editor and sped up the bulk of the flight by a factor of 10 so that the video would be a reasonable length.

Common questions I get: What screen recording software do you use? What joystick do you use? What add-ons do you use? Where can I find the XR2 Ravenstar? Where do I download Orbiter? And much, much more. It's all answered in the FAQ I set up at this link (the link is a google document):
