8Today we are unboxing the Original Tetris Famicom (ELORG/BPS 1987) Japanese Game that is Complete in Box. I bought this during our Podcast on The Geek and I Podcast with John and Jeff. This is my first time not only seeing this Japanese Version of Tetris in person, but also playing it. I'm playing this on my Retro-Bit Super Retro Trio 3+ using the My Arcade Cartridge Converter Famicom to NES Game Cartridge Adapter.

Tetris (テトリス Tetorisu) is a variant of Alexey Pajitnov's tile-matching game of the same name that was made for the Famicom. It was developed and published by Bullet Proof Software (BPS), who had licensed the rights to publish a Famicom version from Atari Games (Tengen). The discovery that Elorg had not given any console rights to Tetris to anyone led to Nintendo purchasing the console rights and sub-licensing the Japanese rights to BPS. A second version containing the updated licensing information was released on December 11, 1989.
This version has an unusual control scheme, which mapped "down" to rotate, "B" to hard drop, and no way to soft drop.
Elektronorgtechnica, better known abbreviated as ELORG, was a state-owned organization with a monopoly on the import and export of computer support and hardware and software in the Soviet Union. It was controlled by the Ministry of Foreign Trade of the USSR from 1971 to 1989.
Bullet-Proof Software was founded in 1983 by Henk Rogers in Japan, which closed at the end of March 2001. Today it is now known as Blue Planet Software, located in Honolulu, Hawaii as the successor to Bullet-Proof Software.
Tetris is a puzzle video game created by the Soviet software engineer Alexey Pajitnov in 1984. It has been published by several companies for multiple platforms, most prominently during a dispute over the appropriation of the rights in the late 1980s. After a significant period of publication by Nintendo, the rights reverted to Pajitnov in 1996, who co-founded the Tetris Company with Henk Rogers to manage licensing.
Tetris the movie is a 2023 biographical thriller film directed by Jon S. Baird, written by Noah Pink, and starring Taron Egerton, Nikita Efremov, Sofia Lebedeva, Anthony Boyle, Toby Jones and Roger Allam. It is based on true events around the race to license and patent the video game Tetris in the late 1980s during the Cold War. Tetris premiered at the SXSW Film Festival on March 15, 2023, and was released on March 31, 2023 by Apple TV+.
The updated version of Tetris is called Tetris Effect, which is a block-dropping arcade-styled puzzle video game developed by Japanese studios Monstars and Resonair and published by Enhance Games. The game was released worldwide exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on November 9, 2018, and features support for the PlayStation VR.
