Outlast II (Hard) Part 1
0Wow, just wow. I really enjoyed the original, but this game is a huge improvement over the original. Outlast II is absolutely one of the best horror game experiences I have ever had. I was extremely hesitant to play this because I naively assumed it was more of the same as the original. To an extent it is. You still don't have any weapons to fend off the enemies so you have to run around and find a safe place to hide if an enemy spots you. After a while that sort of gameplay really stops being entertaining for myself. Somehow this game managed to keep me spooked and at the edge of my seat. The story is also really interesting. I find cults and interpretations of the Bible mythos very entertaining and this game twists things in such a grotesque manner it's hard to peel yourself away. You slowly stumble across things to film and read and it all adds to the frights unfolding in front of your face. There's also some strange parallel between the protagonists past, told through creepy flashbacks and what is happening to him in the current world. The graphics and atmosphere are absolutely wonderful. It's nice to see horror games step out of the tired trope of the spooky asylum/house. I thought that the length of the game would tire out me after a while, but because of how much variety there is to the environment and enemies I constantly felt fresh and scared. Enjoy my blind playthrough.
