So, I like to periodically check in how the arcade Chihiro Beta version of Outrun 2 is coming along in CxbxReloaded (I'm using the most recent version here - CI-8fcc2f5) the original Xbox emulator that can also run a small handful of Chihiro arcade games. I don't think anything's really changed here compared to my last OR2 Chihiro upload roughly a year ago, although it looks like the graphical benefits you got from adding the DXVK dll files to the folder with the EXE in are now part of the standalone build.

Although it doesn't seem like anything has changed, I thought it might be interesting to do a split-screen comparison between the Beta Chihiro version and the arcade Lindbergh version of Outrun 2 SPDX that you can play using Teknoparrot to see what's different in the earliest and the last arcade versions of Outrun 2. The Chihiro emulation's obviously a bit rougher around the edges (as evidenced by the big black spiky mess under the car), but I felt it was of a standard now to be able to compare the two. The steering feels a lot twitchier in the Chihiro on CXBXR game than in Teknoparrot (I'm using an Xbox 360 joypad to play both). I can also play the TP version in full HD without any issue, but the Chihiro version suffers loss of performance if I increase the resolution, so in the video it's displaying at a slightly lower res (not that you can really tell in split-screen like this). I can't remember off the top of my head if SPDX natively plays in 16:9. The Chihiro game is 4:3.

CXBXR didn't want to work with OBS in game capture mode and my old fall back FRAPS wouldn't capture the window either (odd, FRAPS will normally capture ANYTHING). I ended up having to use OBS in Display Capture mode, which was causing a drop in frame rate in the Chihiro game (it was hovering around 52fps with capture, whereas it was more like 57fps without). So SPDX didn't end up getting miles in front, I paused the gameplay on it at the checkpoints, to give the Chihiro Beta a chance to catch up). Even without wonky steering and a drop in frame rate, SPDX is still going to result in faster lap and finish times, owing to the fact that you can slipstream other cars in, it to increase your max speed, and you're not punished anywhere near as severely for collisions with other vehicles and scenery.

An interesting thing about being able to play the actual Chihiro game, is the fact the Ferrari Testarossa (the original 1986 Outrun car) had a very different look in this version of the game compared to all the subsequent home ports and sequels. Apparently it was re-designed in the later games to appear more like the version from the 1986 super-scaler original, which has been the case from Outrun 2 on the Xbox and beyond. The only other place this original Chihiro Testrossa design featured was in the Xbox demo of Outrun 2, but only as a rival car (thanks once again to fellow Outrun 2 superfan Noobsaibot21 for making me aware of this in the first place). Oddly, this version of the Testarossa was the one that featured on the back of the Xbox OR2 box. You can see it here on the back of my very own PAL copy of OR2: https://sta.sh/019w09shrhva
Interestingly as well, Beta Testarossa's a 6 gear car, SPDX's is 5 speed.

There are also a few billboards that look a bit different in the opening Palm Beach stage too in the Beta Chihiro game (the FILA one sticks out), as well as different menus and UI design. There's no proper ending also in the Beta title. If you spot any other changes let me know
