Playthrough of the original mode. This mode has you pick a car, then take on all the other cars in single stage segments. I use a few different cars, but some of them don't turn very well compared to others, so I had to avoid cars like the Mad Power. To me the Quick Reactor is one of the best cars, it isn't the fastest, but it has the best handling.

OutRunners was never released in Europe, but was included on the European Mega Drive Mini II, which is what I've got. If you have the system's language set to English, OutRunners will play the Japanese version (despite it showing the USA version's box). If you want to play the USA version, set the Mini II's language to Korean. The USA version has some small changes (such as the Data East screen at the start) and a fairly big omission: the removal of the Virtua Formula car. I'll be showing that off when I do a playthrough of the Japanese version at a later date.

Originally, OutRunners was released by SEGA in Japan, but apparently SEGA of America weren't interested in releasing it in America. So Data East published the port there instead. Meanwhile nobody was interested in releasing it in Europe. It's not really hard to see why: it's not a good port. Try looking up videos of arcade OutRunners, it looks great. Then look at this port: tiny sprites, poor animation, forced split screen in single player, bad collision detection, cheating CPU opponents... this port got ravaged by the gaming press at the time. You have to wonder why they tried porting this in the first place, the Mega Drive just wasn't up to the task. It's sad that OutRunners still lacks a better console port than this.
