However, fishing farm mechanics differ significantly between Java and Bedrock Editions. This guide will help you build an effective XP fish farm for both versions.
Materials Needed
For a basic fish farm, the materials are quite simple. In Java Edition, you will need a hopper, chest, water bucket, note block, iron trapdoor, string, tripwire hook, and a fishing rod. In Bedrock Edition, the materials are similar but often require additional blocks to adjust for different water and fishing mechanics. Enchanted fishing rods with Luck of the Sea, Lure, and Mending are essential for maximizing the efficiency of your farm in both versions.
Fishing Mechanics: Java vs. Bedrock
The core mechanics of fishing are what distinguish the two editions. In Java, fish farms can be fully automated using a note block and tripwire system. The rod’s bobber detects when it’s caught, triggering the trapdoor to reset and cast again automatically. This creates an infinite fishing loop without manual input.
In contrast, Bedrock Edition does not support fully automated systems in the same way. You will need to manually trigger the fishing process with an auto-clicker or an input device, as the game requires players to face open water to fish. Water flow and block placement are used to keep the bobber in place, but automation is less efficient.
