Where would Toho Studios be without its monsters? Ever since 1954 and the release of 'Gojira', the kaiju genre has been one of Japan's most popular and lucrative film exports. For over 56 years, Toho (and, to a lesser extent, rival studio Daiei) has conjured a plethora of wacky beasts for our city-stomping entertainment.
In light of my recent 'Them!' review, I decided to provide an in-depth history of these monsters. Marvel at the tasty Meganula, gape at the ludicrous design of Gigan, and cower before the malevolence of Destoroyah!
