Overwatch: The Ranked Mode Paradox
There is a paradox in Overwatch's competitive ranking system. Whichever way you look at it, there will be people who do not belong in the ranks they are in.
The background gameplay is me queued with fellow subscriber Rickert in some ~2700 Season 2 match, playing as Reinhardt on Eichenwalde. Spoiler: we win. But we only win because everything happens to go perfect at the very last moment. Thanks for the match, Rickert!
I feel that Overwatch's rank mode (at least from a solo or duo, maybe even trio) queue perspective is largely flawed and unfortunately impossible to resolve. Overwatch is a team game, but 6 strangers will most of the time not form a cohesive team. This will lead to frustrations of any individuals who *do* want to play as a team if they are queued with those who can't, or for whatever reason, won't.
Most people QQ at people when they claim to be in "Elo hell", but there is a very good explanation of why it might actually exist.
I love feedback, good and bad, so please let me know what you think!
