I only use Cotton Candy when I see that ALL my pals have low sanity. I usually simply swap the food in the food basket to make cotton candies a priority over baked berries.

If I only need to cure 1 pal, I will manually take few cotton candies in my inventory and I will feed them individually until they reach a satisfactory amount of sanity ( Usually between 80-100 )
