The Panasonic MZ980 is yet another solid mid-range OLED TV from the company, with great features and image quality on offer. If you are a movie fan and canโt quite reach the MZ1500 or flagship MZ2000, the MZ980 offers you some of the best cinematic image quality at its market level. SDR and HDR content are accurate thanks to Filmmaker Mode out of the box, but you also have full calibration capabilities if required and the MZ980 excels with images that look realistic, cinematic and accurate. The peak brightness for HDR is not quite as bright as the higher models which have heat sinks built-in, but that doesnโt mean the HDR on the MZ980 is lacking. Indeed, superb tone mapping capabilities and very good video processing plus motion help produce compelling picture quality in this market segment. Gaming is also good with two HDMI 2.1 ports (40Gbps), an improved game bar and an accurate True Game picture mode. Overall, the Panasonic MZ980 offers an excellent entry point to a range of TVs that excel with movie content and if youโre a home cinema fan looking for a new TV at a slightly smaller screen size, you need to add this to your demo list. Recommended for film fans with dark rooms.

True game picture mode, game bar and decent gaming features

*The not so good*
Only two 40Gbps HDMI 2.1 ports with eARC using one
No large screen sizes at this market segment or feature level
Looks a little bit expensive at launch compared to direct rivals
