Paper Mario: The Origami King ( REVIEW IN DESCRIPTION ) I Ep.37 I Humiliating Performance
HOW IT ALL STARTED
Well, it started after more of a tradition of playing the other games of the franchise. I wanted to see if this game was better after all of the recent 2 hadn't been as great as the ones before them. I got this game quite early, and finished it quite early. I have now had the time to finish this game 3 times, and below, I will give my final opinions on it.
PROS
First of all I would like to say, the music in this game is absolutely phenomenal. I didn't really appreciate it at first, but after this revisit, I checked out the OST and it had by far the best soundtrack out of the modern paper Marios ( in my opinion ). The Disco Devil theme was my favourite. Olivia, was absolutely the biggest improvement for me, the last two partners were very detestable and felt more like your enemies than anything. Especially Kersti, she was my least favourite partner, constantly screaming a Mario when he gets something wrong and being disrespectful to the most famous plumber ever. Moving on, the game's post-game was also a much positive side in this game, since there were hidden trophies can still be entertaining. To this day I have still not completed a perfect shy guys finish last and Eddie River. It also is quite entertaining, has many more treasures to collect and a much more useful and interesting menu for completing the game 100%. I was going to put the difficulty being too easy in the cons, however seeing as I died multiple times in this video and in the scuffle island, after playing the whole game for the third time, I have to say the difficulty is spot on for this type of game. The toads and cheering implemented was very great and more interactive, as the toads actually had a reason to exist ( but Ollie still wanted to hate them ).
The creativity of this game is great and I enjoyed the Legion of Stationary and of all the regions and themes, and although I preferred the colouring aspect of color splash a lot I have to say, saving the toads is a huge improvement from sticker star and some secrets are pretty challenging. Making the time fly if you are keen and enjoying the game with all of its mechanics. The aspect of the allies being brought from Super Paper Mario was really intriguing and even though it was a Paper Mario, it was in much different style of game. On a final note, seeing the re-occurrence of Luigi was amazing to me as he doesn't appear in the spotlight at all in these kind of games very often.
CONS
I will start the cons by saying I didn't like the confetti aspect of the game, as I found other past objectives more interesting. A major problem in this game is glitches, and game-breaking glitches. It's clear they didn't playtest enough to find this out. I will give an example that prevented me from completing the game 100%. The surfboard toad in Snif City, which give you a max hp up heart, glitched and I wasn't able to hit the toad to: 1. get the hp up heart and 2. save all the toads in the area and progress on the game. This was really frustrating and blocked me from getting 100% on my first playthrough. Ollie is also a cliche villain, but to be fair what else would we expect from a Mario game?
CLOSING THOUGHTS
Honestly overall, this game, as I said, was a massive improvement from the last two. Making one of my favourite modern games. The quality of the game outweighs any cons it has and I definitely recommend this game for anyone out there who hasn't tried it. My grade for this game would be a 7.5/10. Because even though the game was great, it wasn't better than some of the earlier Paper Marios and, frustrating glitches stop this game from being spectacular. This is the highest mark I have given to a game so far in my channel, but it will not be the last game I play here.
Thank you very much for reading, have a great day out there.
