Allen, what are you...? N-never mind, I'll just back away, slowly.

Well, we all knew it couldn't possibly be that easy, right? From here on out, the game will ramp up the pressure right up to the end. The only game I found more difficult to look away from the main story and go grind is Final Fantasy XII... (Say what you want about the game, but once you're at the end, you want to GET TO THE BLOODY FINISH ALREADY! :-) )
(And have you read the book with this title, by the way? I have. I'm altogether ambivalent about it, though.)

When the smelly stuff hits the swirly stuff, though, pay close attention to who can hear 'something' and who can't. There might be an explanation in Episode 3, involving some 'factor' only people from the planet Michtam have. (This might also be, coincidentally, Margulis's birth place, judging by events in Episode 3, which would explain how he knows what the song sounds like, as he implied a number of hours back.)
The song itself, the acoustic one, is also a bit interesting. See, the chant fragment follows the same pattern as in the movie End of Days (doubtless many others, but that's the only one I recognize it from), and probably many computer games. In this game, though, the last note was lowered - I think in the original form the note the phrase ends on is the tonic, but here I believe it's a minor seventh. Possibly. When you're supposed to land on the tonic and there's suddenly a minor seventh in the mix, harmonic progression gets funny. Don't worry if you miss it, though - we'll have all the time we ever wanted to get familiar with this song soon enough. (It's 'funny' by design, scout's honour.)
