Arabia is a civilization that focuses on gold and religion. In particular, they specialize in generating additional copies of luxuries used for trade and being able to take advantage of oil better than other civilizations. For this reason, they are often found spawning near the desert, which can be a problem if they are not lucky with rivers. Trying to build Petra early if you find yourself stranded in the desert can be a viable strategy, but Petra is one of those wonders who are usually always sniped early by the AI on higher difficulties, with no feasible chance to getting it yourself unless you have an amazing start and possibly a great engineer. Nevertheless, Arabia got one of the most powerful unique units in the game. The camel archer is nigh unstoppable when it first arrives. Despite being a mounted unit, pikemen and other anti-cavalry units get no special bonuses against them. They are able to perform hit & run attacks and can often destroy entire armies on their own simply by “kiting” their enemies to death. Even if they are caught out in the open, they are usually strong enough to survive going toe to toe with most foes. They are so strong that they can take on cities without siege support, and even combat musketmen reliably. The bazaar is also extremely good; being able to copy luxuries guarantees you more trading partners, which also helps you build relations. The extended range of land trade routes with extra religion spread means you can often convert other capitals to your religion without even sending missionaries, granting you very strong diplomatic relations early on.
