PatchWork's Opinions On The Entire "Twisted Metal" Series
A FEW CLARIFICATIONS I'D LIKE TO MAKE:
1. I was informed a couple months after this stream that "Transylvania" (which is the eighth level in Twisted Metal Head-On: Extra Twisted Edition story mode) is a new level for the PS2 version of the game and was NEVER a DLC/downloadable level for the original PSP game. I've had a mandela effect moment where I swear up and down that I saw advertisements for Transylvania as a DLC for the PSP game, but I could have just mixed up memories as "Twisted Metal Head-On: Extra Twisted" Edition was released on February 5, 2008. I was a PS1/PS2/Xbox 360 kid until the mid-2010s and never owned a PSP so odds are a bunch of different memories mixed together to make me think that Transylvania was a DLC for the original PSP. Just to be clear Transylvania is a PS2 exclusive level.
2. I firmly believe that while there is no "best" Twisted Metal game; the best 3 games to start off to "get into" the series are Twisted Metal Head-On: Extra Twisted, Twisted Metal 2012, and Twisted Metal 4. The last one out of those 3 might sound weird given Twisted Metal 3 and Twisted Metal 4's bad wrap plus TM4's very weird control scheme, but TM4 has save slots and the car customization.
3. To anyone reading this who considers themselves a "veteran" or at least a "long time fan"; please don't gatekeep. Don't make arbitrary hoops people have to jump through to "be a real fan". Twisted Metal exists for people to have fun. It does not exist as a series to make people who've played it a long time feel special. If people don't like "your" game you like a lot, don't be difficult about it - help them pick out a game in the series that THEY like instead of trying to bash your head against the wall to get anyone and everyone to like "your" game because you think it's "the definitive game" of the entire series. I don't care if you've personally made love to David Jaffe and have also been ordinated by god to be the priest, the paladin, the holy defender of the Twisted Metal series. Whatever game you find to be "the definitive game" of the series is great for your own happiness, BUT people playing your favorite game let alone liking your favorite game is not entry ticket to be a "real fan".
