While the general story is intact, it amazes me how much darker the original J.M. Barrie work is. An example I have is the character of Smee. In the book he is described as a simple man, with a sword like a corkscrew, that he named Johnny corkscrew. After a fight he would clean his glasses but leave his sword dripping with blood. In addition, there is tells of several lost boys dying at the blade of the pirates.
Even with a script, I still forget to mention a few things. In the book, the Crocodile is a girl. That struck me as surprising for some reason. Also when Peter and Wendy first meet, Wendy ask if she can give him a kiss. Peter not knowing what it is holds out his hand to receive one. Not wanting to break his spirits, she gives him a thimble. He then gives her an acorn, as thanks. Main reason I mention this part, is that in very early versions of Monopoly the Thimble had engraved on it "Good for a Girl". Always thought this was in reference to Peter Pan. I haven't seen very many adaptations of Peter Pan, other than the ones showed in this video. However I think Hook is probably the closest.
They mention Peters origin story, part of the play is at the beginning of the movie, Hook uses the abbreviation Jas, The lost boys eat imaginary food, Toodles is the odd one out, The Origin of fairies are explained, as well as the "I don't believe in Fairies" killing them, and clapping brings them back. One of the more obscure ones is that Tinker Bell would often called Peter "A Silly Ass" which was also in the movie.
