Patrick Wilson’s Cape Fear Will Be Different Than the Classics #patrickwilson #theconjuring
Patrick Wilson is stepping into familiar territory for his upcoming Cape Fear series in the role of Tim Bowden, and he’s already hinting that audiences should brace themselves for something darker than what’s come before. Speaking with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff during press for The Conjuring: Last Rites, Wilson opened up about how this latest reimagining of the classic story will distinguish itself from both the original novel and the two acclaimed film adaptations.
When asked what sets this project apart, Wilson made it clear the new series won’t simply retread Martin Scorsese’s 1991 version or the 1962 film that first brought Robert Mitchum’s terrifying Max Cady to life. Instead, the goal is expansion:
“Oh boy. The quick answer is, well, there's no quick answer. I mean, I think, look, what the book did to Robert Mitchum, like each time they've done some sort of recreation, it's been more of a world building and expanding relationships, expanding characters. And so we take it further. This is not just a recreation of the Scorsese film for sure. We take the kernel of that, we nod to that, or a kernel of that, we nod to that, and then we stretch it out and make it even more distorted. So we keep a lot of that spirit, but we definitely push it because of it really and all those great directors.”
