DISCLAIMER: This version of the game is extremely early in development has many issues, so please be patient and help by reporting issues in the #quest-feedback channel in the Discord.
Step 1 - Required Tools
You will need the following:
1.1 - An Oculus Quest
1.2 - An mobile device running Android or iOS with the Oculus app installed and paired to your Oculus Quest
1.3 - A computer running Microsoft Windows (Linux & MacOS instructions to follow)
1.4 - A way of connecting your Quest to the computer via USB 3.0 (2.0 is not recommended but may still work)
Step 2 - Enabling Developer Mode on the Oculus Quest
Pavlov VR is not on the Oculus Store and therefore must be side-loaded using Android developer tools. To enable this side-loading on the Oculus Quest you must enable developer mode by following these steps on your mobile device:
2.1 - Open the Oculus app on your mobile device.
2.2 - Go to the settings tab by tapping the gear icon in the bottom-right of the app.
2.3 - Below the account name and email address shown at the top of the page, there is an icon for your paired headsets. Tap the Oculus Quest to connect to it if you are not already connected. Once connected, a green dot will be shown below the headset name as well as connected and battery life.
2.4 - Tap the drop-down arrow to the right of the headset name to open a drop-down menu.
2.5 - Tap 'More Settings'
2.6 - Tap 'Developer Mode'
2.7 - Enable developer mode by turning the switch on.
You do not need to use the mobile device after this step. More information on this step can be found here: https://developer.oculus.com/document...
Step 3 - Connecting your Oculus Quest to your Computer
3.1 - Plug your headset into your computer using the USB type C cable in the box, or by using a USB type A to type C cable. This is not included with the Oculus Quest, but is necessary if your computer does not have any USB type C ports.
3.2 - Whilst still plugged in, put the headset on and hold one of the controllers. Make sure it is turned on.
3.3 - Within the headset there will be a prompt to trust the computer you connected the headset to. Before clicking accept, check the box to always allow this computer access, as you will likely install newer versions in the same way. Checking the box means you needn't put the headset on each time you connect it to your computer.
You do not need to put the headset on again until you wish to play Pavlov.
Step 4 - Installing the game
4.1 - Navigate to the Pavlov VR server on Discord and click on the #quest-feedback channel.
4.2 - Click the pin icon in the top-right of the message history.
4.3 - Look for a pinned link to a zip file uploaded by @davevillz and click it to download. It should be named something like PavlovVR_OpenAlpha_BuildNum_X.zip
4.4 - Once downloaded extract the contents of the zip folder. You can do this in Windows natively by opening the zip archive and dragging the contents to another folder. Ensure you copy all the files.
4.5 - Double click 'Install.bat' This will open a command prompt and automatically connect to the Oculus Quest, uninstall any existing version of Pavlov VR and install the one you downloaded.
4.6 - Once complete, the command prompt will close and the installation is complete. Unplug the headset from the computer.
Step 5 - Playing the game
5.1 - Put the headset on and remember to put on the wrist straps for the controllers.
5.2 - In Oculus Home, navigate to the library by clicking the book icon.
5.3 - A menu showing your games and apps will appear. There will be tabs on the left-hand side. Click on the 'unknown developer' tab.
5.4 - Click on Pavlov VR in the main window to launch the game.,
The game takes a long time to boot initially, so wait at least one minute.
Troubleshooting
Q1 - Install.bat takes forever!
A1 - Try waiting a little longer. You should see a percentage going up in the bottom-left of the command prompt. If this doesn't happen after 5 minutes, close the command prompt and run Install.bat again. If it still doesn't work, restart your computer and try again. You can also try restarting your Oculus Quest, but this is unlikely to help. Note that it will take much longer to transfer the game if you are using a USB 2.0 port or cable.
