in 2025, after NOT A SINGLE SOUL ASKED FOR IT, I made a borland C++ program (just basic C really) to take in MIDI input from a midi controller and send it to the PC speaker, transforming midi note bytes into frequency data for the pc speaker using a look up table.

this is monophonic as it stands, but I plan to do something about polyphony. Stay tuned! and subscribe!
