I'm trying out Xubuntu 13.04 and testing a few PC games including Quake 4, which is running natively on Linux.

The sound in this game sometimes lag a bit, probably because Xubuntu 13.04 uses PulseAudio while Quake 4 uses ALSA/OSS. One temporary solution is to change the Audio settings to OpenAL, this somehow syncs the sound with the actual gameplay.

The other solution is to remove PulseAudio and use ALSA as the default audio system. Resetting PulseAudio may solve the problem, but I haven't tried that yet.

Actual gameplay is smoother without the screen cap.
