Peaks of Yore - All Fundamentals (Itemless)
Hey guys, so I haven't uploaded anything of this game but it's one of my absolute favorites, peaks of yore is a game about rock climbing mountains, it is quite difficult but exhilarating and I have been addicted to it for like a year now. The footage in this video is from June 2024, I was originally going to upload a video of all the mountains in one video, but it's been taking really long to do that because of the DLC that was released late last year that added a bunch more mountains on to the pile.
Anyway, so the fundamentals is the first book of the base game, it has 20 mountains in it and they slowly introduce new mechanics and get increasingly difficult generally as they go on, very fun learning curve as a whole.
Now to talk about what Itemless means, so this game comes with a lot of various items you can use to make it easier for you, for example rope, which allows you to get caught if you fall off the mountain, essentially a safety net, there is also a few other things like coffee which boosts your general stamina temporarily, and chalk which lets you hold onto the holds for longer periods of time. But most importantly are the crampons, with crampons if there is a flat wall or steep incline, you can press ctrl to jump off the wall, and get a boost essentially, this is by far the most difficult item to not use during the game, mostly later on, for the fundamentals, nothing is particularly too rough itemless, but it's only the start for now, some of the late game mountains almost expect you to use crampons constantly, so to remove them proves some wild challenges.
Oh yeah as a side note, I was playing with a multiplayer mod for this with my friend Millie, it doesn't affect vanilla gameplay at all as there is 0 interactions between players so this is functionally the same as unmodded, and it was just more fun to experience the game this way. Oh yeah also I've been doing an itemless playthrough as my first playthrough also, so I have no practice of the mountains beforehand, this ends up being a herculean effort later in the game than the first book.
