In this case I have the French version (persona 5 artbook officiel), why? because I read that the English version was paperback and this one is hardcover which I think is quite essential for a whopping 500 paged book. however the downside is, I can't read the artist comments. Anyways this version was released by mana books, the same company that released the French version of the art of mana. The quality is fine, although i do notice some pages are of higher quality than other and thus the main feeling and presentation is good enough. So what can we expect from this art book? It's huge and the table of contents divide the following categories. 20 pages of introduction art, 242 pages of specific main character art, 89 pages of secondary character art, 49 pages of boss character art, 9 pages of miscellaneous art, 92 pages of persona universe art and 4 pages of artist comments.

The art is so well done, they style of the line work and the colour scheme. The art basically pops out from the page and really draws you in. This style reminds me of the YS heroin chronicles which was near the end of the Ys official art book. Anyways back to persona, it's funny for me to see that they went so in depth with the character personalities. They show all emotions, with the bosses having some really cool evil looking profile pictures.

I don't know what the game is exactly about but what i understood they go to a different dimension and have ''persona's'' which they change into or fight with them, i don't know the details. anyways this game has some crazy creative designs and some of these art poses are just extremely cool, making it such a stylized game. I wonder what some of the artist comments are saying because at the end there is quite big interview and throughout the pages some of the drawings have comments as well. so that's a great add in and should be present in every art book in my opinion. that said its quite neat to see how much work they put into crafting this book as they also display some of the concept art of the story board and environmental art, which is based on Tokyo.... but of course you knew that already. What I also think is cool that they show multiple stages of the games cover art. That's something inever seen in any of my collection. Now the ultimate question; is this book a solid buy and if yes for whom? So first, if you're a persona fan and like these type of books - yes of course. However if your like me it is essential that you love the artwork before thinking of buying. The thing is, because it is so character based you kind of need to know who you're looking at in the first place. Fortunately in this case i don't care. On a side note I have ofcourse the French version which is hardcover, i don't know if i would have bought this book paperback. Of course the content does not change but what i think is a pity, it reminds me of the Ys artbook - an extremely awesome art book with a similar page count but falls apart if you look at it funny, because the binding seems so fragile. But to be a bit specific, having the availability of reading it in English is a massive pro, the question is, will this be re-released in hard cover format? I am curious what your opinion is if you had to choose between French hard cover or English paperback. Anyways thanks for watching and stay awesome.
