The original Phantasy Star for the Master System was basically Sega's answer to the Final Fantasy Series on the NES, Phantasy Star II set the bar for the Master System's successor, The Sega Genesis! Phantasy Star III: Generation of Doom, while still a good game in its own right, took some different approaches that easily make this the black sheep of the entire Offline series of Phantasy Star... So now at the end of the new millennium, we have the conclusion to the Master System/Genesis series, Phantasy Star IV!
While the previous two games make subtle references to the original game on the Master System, Phantasy Star IV brings the ENTIRE series up until now to a whole. As we all know the final bosses in those games (with a technicality to II having it as the penultimate boss) was Dark Force... but what if I told you that when the end of all civilization makes all hell break loose, Dark Force is but mere child's play compared to the one controlling Dark Force, The Profound Darkness! Chaz Ashley is but a mere Bounty Hunter at the tender age of 16, yet what he doesn't know is that his life will take a dramatic turn of galactic proportions!
