Phantasy Star Gaiden (Japanese: ファンタシースター外伝) is a role-playing game released for the Sega Game Gear on October 16, 1992 exclusively in Japan. It is also included as a secret game in Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 32: Phantasy Star Complete Collection, which was released for PlayStation 2 on March 27, 2008 and later for PlayStation Network on December 19, 2012. In the year AW 813, a man named Morg and an unnamed tailor are suddenly abducted by mountain bandits while mining for Laconia ore. Although the two plot an escape together, only the tailor manages to break free. Bloodied and bruised, the tailor stumbles upon Morg's son, Alec, and after receiving a drink of water, the tailor recounts the events to Alec. He then gives the boy an item Morg wanted him to have, a relic called the Wisdom Mirror. Shortly after, the man succumbs to his wounds and falls unconscious. Although overwhelmed by the events, Alec and his childhood friend Minina set forth on their adventure to save Alec's father and uncover the secrets that lie in wait.
