Time for Phantasy Star Generation: 1, a PS2 Remake of the Master System Classic. The art style is probably the most contentious thing about this. I personally like it, although the main character looking like Kurumi Imari from Bible Black does make me laugh.

This isn't a straight port with graphical and audio enhancements. The story has been fleshed out to a small degree, you start with more Mesetas to get into action with decent equipment quicker and it just has general QoL that a mid 80s jRPG might expect to undergo almost 20 years later. The story can't actually be ignored here either, you will need to speak to certain NPCs at various points throughout the story to advance. The translation is more in line with the original Japanese too.

The story starts with Alisia swearing vengeance on her brother with LaShiec being her target. She mentions to herself about needing to find Tyrone and says Nick might be able to help her, so you have to speak to Nick in the NW House and obtain the Laconian Pot. Tyrone is in Scion according to Nick.

Head back home for a prompt about home being empty and then the building immediately W for a simple dungeon in the Warehouse to find 2000 Meseta, more than enough for starting equipment, so go buy some, including the basic healing item and a mix of the three support items.

Now you can start grinding, which is thankfully much quicker here.
You'll notice the first fight is pretty rough, and the Red enemy name text is the indicator why. It does get me a level up though, so subsequent fights are much easier here. I get to level 3 quickly and learn Flaeli which is a mini-nuke for now on these forces.

Head NE to Scion and speak to Wiz, the guy in the NE with Pink Hair. He informs you that Tyrone is attempting to kill Medusa, and that we should speak to Joe. Joe is the blue haired guy in the S. He mentions finding a talking Cat by Medusa's Cave that he sold to a merchant in Paseo on Motavia. Buy a new weapon in Scion and leave for Camineet. Head to Alm in the SW of Camineet and he mentions a road pass and a passport being needed to travel to Motavia. He also mentions the three planets of the Algol System briefly.

Head SW of Camineet to Parolit and Keith in the NE House mentions a black market in Scion, so head back there and negotiate with the shop until you can buy Secrets for 600 Meseta.
In the Spaceport purchase a passport for 100 Mesetas and speak to the blue haired pilot in the N to head to Motavia. and head to the Drug Shop to tade the Laconian Pot for the Cat. Myau joins you, and he has alsulin around his neck which can heal Tyrone. Head back to Palma and grind, you'll encounter a new enemy type that wasn't in the original, the Rappy. These are designed to give you good grinding, mainly of Meseta.

Save up for a Frame that you can buy in Paseo on Motavia and get afew Atlas to help you map the dungeons. When you're around level 8 and well kitted out, head to Medusa's Cave on the outside of the SW wall of the starting area. Head N and then W at the split, S at the split, W at the split, S at the split, W and then W at the split, S at the split, E at the split to find
Tyrone. Use the Alsulin and he'll be returned to normal.

Tyrone mentions his compass, so we need to find that. Hand him the Frame for a nice, instant upgrade.

Now head W and all the way N, from here head E and nab the Compass in a Chest. Now backtrack out of the dungeon, but before the final split head S and W for a Pelt for an upgrade for Myau. You'll also find 3,000 Meseta N of the entrance now.

Heal up in Camineet and take the pair to your home.
Head S to Eppi and buy a Heat Gun for a massive offensive boost to Tyrone.
Grind for the money for a Titanium Sword around Eppi too, and finally a Bronze Shield.

Speak to Hashim in Eppi and he mentions hiding his Key in the North Warehouse, and that the Governor of Motavia is fond of shortcake sold in Naula Cave.

Head back to the North Warehouse and take the W split to find Hashim's Key then speak to Mary to obtain the Key to Naula Cave. Heal up and save to end the part.
