It was just as the New Year began, and as Wright and Maya discuss plans Gumshoe bursts in looking way more agitated than usual. He shows them a magazine about a poisoning case last month.....and Wright was the defense attorney in that trial! But the weird hitch is...he didn't have a trial like that last month. What's going on? One speculation is that...he may have an evil double! (according to Maya, anyway). While Gumshoe gets to work on getting the case a retrial, they go visit the guilty victim....
Lo and behold, it was another familiar face: the unlucky Maggey Byrd. It seems whoever did her case, it seems the courtroom was leery at first but didn't bat an eye at the time. And thinking back...she did find him suspicious for a bit. After hearing this, it just became personal now.
They head for the restaurant Maggey was working at, Tres Bien, and found no one was in. They find a magazine behind the rack, dated the day of the murder. After showing it to Maggey, she recognized the name....it belonged to the victim of the case. They head back to the cafe and meet the owner and chef, Jean Armstrong...and he seems very into aromatherapy as shown by the roses he carries with him. He was one of the witnesses of course, being the owner, but it seems he was sad that Maggey was taken and now he's trying to hire new help....but his advertisement seems to go unanswered.
After some incidents (including Maya being forcefully "hired" by Armstrong), Wright heads for the police's Criminal Affairs department and Gumshoe was there. He says the retrial's been approved...and Godot was the prosecutor this time. After getting more details about the victim as well as a general understanding of the case (a few details a bit more personal than others), he decides to give the chef another visit....
