In this video, Mahalo's Photoshop expert Justin Zagri shows how to add a vignette to an image.
Steps to Add a Vignette
---------------------------------------------------------------------
A vignette is a technique photographers use to darken the corners of an image so your eye can focus more fully on the center. It's not meant to be noticed, but it does make a big difference. This tutorial will show you a quick, easy and accurate way to make one.
1. Add a new layer by clicking the appropriate icon at the bottom of the Layers panel. Rename it Vignette.
2. Grab the Elliptical Marquee Tool and create a marquee circle around the image. Start at the top left corner and drag it out to the bottom right corner.
3. Right-click inside the marquee circle and choose Select Inverse.
4. Press Q to create a transparent mask.
5. Navigate to the top menu bar and click Filter -- Blur -- Gaussian Blur.
6. Increase the Radius to its maximum.
7. With the Vignette layer selected, click Add a layer mask at the bottom of the Layers panel.
8. Click on the layer itself, make sure the Foreground color is black and grab the Paint Bucket Tool. Click anywhere inside the mask to create a vignette.
9. If the vignette is too dark, decrease the Opacity. You can find this setting at the top of the Layers panel.
