Pier Pressure is a horizontal Shoot 'Em Up from 2020 by Headcannon (one of the teams behind Sonic Mania). You play as Luis, a shrimp guard at Museum of McGuffin on planet Ineptune, where the prized Power Pearl gets stolen by the buff crawfish scientist Tony and with Luis's job on the line, he has to comandeer one of the three ancient ships present in the museum and get the Power Pearl back from Tony's clutches.

The main mechanic of the game is your energy bar, which is always depleting, movement, firing, power-ups, using specials, all of those drain the bar and you only get energy by collecting energy globules from destroying enemies. You have 3 levels of power and getting hit lowers the power level by one. Power-ups do not affect special weapons and the entire ship sprites are the hitbox (don't know why the first laser in Stage 1 didn't count as a hit, don't question it).

The Pistol ship is the balanced one of the three, with a regular shot (wide shot at max power), a shield and FU-LA5R, which is the most costly special across all three ships. Would've been a no-miss, but I forgot I had to use Shield instead of the laser on the first checkpoint in Stage 4.

Scoring in this game is just killing stuff and collecting the energy pips, you'll only get bigger scores by milking bosses, because I'm pretty sure they can be milked infinitely, because I guess they didn't realize the fact, that while you do have a constantly draining energy bar, that you can easily fill it back up to full from specific attacks, especially since the game is fairly easy, you just need to memorize some of the troublesome bits, otherwise you're good, because the game has so much dead air, it's absurd. Also, you cannot milk checkpoints, as the game saves the score you had when you got a checkpoint and when you die, you will be set back to that checkpoint score.

Pressure Mode just makes you beat the game in one sitting and you have lives, while Normal Mode gives you infinite lives and you can choose from stages on Ship Select when you reach them. However, here's the thing, when I played the mode for the first time, the first extra life, I got at 6k, then every 2k, but after that, subsequent runs were set to every 2k and I don't know why.
Another weird thing is that when beating Pressure Mode, it doesn't unlock Boss Rush and it omits the ending for whatever reason. Also, scores between Normal Mode, Pressure Mode and Boss Rush are not separated at all. The other two ship clears will come later.

The game can also lock up your inputs in Stage 3, because of the bubbles, especially when playing the second ship.

For 4 EUR, this is not bad, I'd say it's average at best.
